James T. Magee Jr., 79, of Colonial Heights, died Thursday, July 31, 2014. He was born October 23, 1934 to the late James Thomas Magee, Sr. and Kathleen Cofer Morrissette. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 40 years, Marilyn Pond Magee. A lifelong Virginian, Jim grew up in Colonial Heights and graduated from Petersburg High School. He attended Randolph-Macon College for three years and was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity before enrolling in pharmacy school at the Medical College of Virginia. Jim graduated from MCV in 1958. After graduating from pharmacy school, Jim served in the Virginia Army National Guard. Jim began his pharmacy career working in his father's drugstore before opening his own Rexall drugstore in Petersburg. Jim eventually sold his store and went to work for Peoples Drug which later became CVS. For many years with Peoples and CVS in Colonial Heights, he was the store manager and pharmacist-in-charge. Employees, co-workers, and customers, always spoke highly of Mr. Magee. After his retirement from full-time practice, Jim worked part-time for CVS, various independent pharmacies, and Walnut Hill Pharmacy which was owned at the time by his cousin Tommy Lee. Jim was an avid pool player who competed in and won several local and regional tournaments. He was very proud of the trophies he won. Jim enjoyed happy hour at various locations in The Fan and Shockoe Slip/Bottom. He also enjoyed tending to the yard at his Swift Creek waterfront home and vacationing in Virginia Beach. He is survived by his family including his son, James Timothy Magee (Sissy); daughter Pamela Magee Goheen (Michael); granddaughter Elizabeth Margaret Magee; half-sister Kathy Morrissette Thompson (John) and their children; aunt Margaret Cofer Laushey (Clyde); aunt Elizabeth Lee; cousin Tommy Lee (Ellen); cousin Bill Lee (Sandra); half-sister Mary Sue Duck (Skipper); half-brothers Tom Magee (Sheryl), Macon Magee (Laura), John Magee (Corrine), and Robert Magee (Diane); his dear friend Carolyn "Tiny" Anckaitis. The family will receive guests at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard on Monday, August 4, 2014 from 7-8:30 p.m. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Chester.
