James "Jimmy" Mika, 73, of Disputanta passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016. He was born in Petersburg to the late Joe and Mary Jane Sluka Mika. He was a graduate of Prince George High School Class of 1961 and Danville Technical Institute in 1963. Jimmy was honorably discharged on May 12, 1970 as a Staff Sergeant with the U. S. Air Force and retired as an automotive mechanic with Sears in Petersburg. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 144 and a Distinguished Life Member of the National Rifle Association. Jimmy was baptized in Oakland Baptist Church in 1954 and repeatedly gave his life to Jesus Christ. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016 at Oakland Baptist Church, 12601 Prince George Drive, Disputanta, Virginia 23842, with Pastor Robert Livesay officiating. Interment will be private. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to service from 10-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Oakland Baptist Church or SPCA of Petersburg & Colonial Heights, 201 Temple Ave., Ste. E, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
