James Millard

James A. Millard, 86, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013 at his residence. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. Born in Mount Olive, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Robert L. and Frankie Lola Whitman Millard, and was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Jessie Mae Millard, and a grandson, Lee Lee Hill. Mr. Millard was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II, and a retired welder with Allied Chemical. He is survived by a son, James A. Millard Jr. and wife, Barbara of Colonial Heights; three daughters, June Yvonne Brooks and husband, Jerry, Debra Millard Barnard and Betty Lou Millard Patsel all of Colonial Heights; 8 grandchildren; James A. Millard III, Courtney Stone, Jerica Taft, Jessica Cheely, Angel Barnard, Blake Dryden, Christopher Peoples and Brettany Patsel; 12 great-grandchildren, Zoe, Cromwell, Vaylan, Winston, Eliza, Kris, Heaven, Phillip, Patrick, Alahnna, Nathan and Bentley. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m.to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday January 9, 2013 at the funeral home.
