James Albert Perdue, 92, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 15, 2023. He is the son of the late Nathaniel and Gladys Perdue. Albert is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Betty Johnson Perdue; brother, Nathaniel W. Perdue; sisters, Nancy P. Thomas, Wilhemine P. Johnson and Ann P. Berry. He is survived by his daughters, Nancy Katherine, Leslie Lynn, and Susan Abigail Venton (Brad); his sons, James Mark (Katey) and John Bradley (Gwen); grandchildren, Lindsay Venton, Sarah Perdue, Liza Watkins, J. Michael Perdue (Sam), McKenzie Perdue and Scott Perdue; and great-grandchildren, Lily May Furrow, Claire Elizabeth Watkins and Alice Randall Watkins. Al served in the U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran. Al enjoyed a variety of career opportunities including working for J. S. Ritchie and Sons, Firestone Synthetic Fibers Company and Petersburg Ford. Al was a dedicated family man and enjoyed spending many hours in the garden beautifying his home. His greatest love was singing gospel music. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in quartets and choirs his entire life. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, VA. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, in Sunset Memorial Park, 2901 W Hundred Rd Chester, VA 23831.
