James D. Poole, 87, of Colonial Heights, formerly of Florida, passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his residence. Born in Halifax County, Virginia he was the son of the late James W. and Missouri Griffin Poole, and was preceded in death by five sisters, and six brothers. Mr. Poole was a member of Westside Baptist Church, Florida. He was a United States Navy veteran having served during World War II, and was a retired Civil Service Mechanic with Fort Lee. He is survived by his wife, Bettie Barfield Poole; two beloved daughters, Patricia Clark and husband, Fred of Chester, and Deborah Sessums of Dinwiddie; Susan O'Quinn and husband, Andy of Brunswick, Georgia; four sons, Charles, Raymond, Ronnie, and Jimmie Poole; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Joseph Poole and wife, Margie of Winterhaven, Florida; a sister, Ethel Poole and husband, Don of Taylorsville, Kentucky; also numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 4, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
