James Hunter Quarles, 69, of Wilsons, VA passed away February 26, 2019. He was preceded in death by his father, James Edward Quarles and his mother, Patricia Ann Quarles.
Hunter served in the US Army for twenty years with posts in Korea, Germany, Washington, Kentucky and Georgia. He retired as a Major at Ft. Pickett in Blackstone, VA and continued to work at Ft. Pickett as Manager of the Recycling Center until his recent retirement. Hunter enjoyed cooking, puttering in his garden, reading and watching the many birds from his favorite spot on the front porch. He loved the beach and spent many summers with family in Florida, crabbing, fishing and enjoying the salt air.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Lester Quarles; daughter, Sarah Quarles McNamara of Mechanicsville, VA.; son, James Daniel Quarles (Staci) of Clarksville, VA; and sister, Kerry Quarles Phillips of Richmond, VA. Hunter had four grandchildren: Emily, Victoria, Jackson and Jonathan; as well as a niece, Amelia, and nephews, Parker, Michael, Paul, Raymond, Jeremey, Jonathan, Joshua; and numerous friends he loved like family.
