James R. Williams, 97, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at home. Born in Petersburg, VA, he was the son of the late Charles H. and Mary (Doss) Williams. He was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, Colonial Heights, and a former member of Second Baptist Church, Petersburg. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He retired from DuPont where he worked at the Spruance plant in North Chesterfield as a Refrigeration Mechanic. He enjoyed tackling major DIY projects, gardening, fishing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Mattie (Murry) Williams; two brothers, George Howard and Eugene Ernest Williams; and sister, Mary Frances Harward. He is survived by his devoted son, Howard Williams, and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday August 31 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Mike Burchard officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
