MSG James Ronald Walton, USA (Ret.), 69, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was born in North Carolina on September 15, 1951 to the late Bennie Rosel and Martha Herman Walton and was preceded in death by a brother, Angelo E. Walton.
James was a Vietnam veteran. He enlisted in the Army on November 23, 1970 and retired on August 31, 1993 at the rank of E8 Master Sergeant. James was also a food instructor at the Ft. Lee Quartermaster school from 1983-1989. He received many awards and accolades for his contributions to food service while in the Army. One of these awards includes an accolade for his basketball team winning first place on Korean Friendship Day with the 1/506 Infantry. He retired from the Ft. Lee Commissary as the Lead Supervisor of the Meat Department.
James is survived by his wife, Helga Straussner Walton; his daughters, Anna Walton of Prince George and Noel Walton of Richmond; grandson, Alex; brothers, Bennie R. Walton Jr. (Freidi) of Gatesville, North Carolina and Ernest L. Walton (Patricia) of Windsor, North Carolina; sisters, Martha L. Walton of Gatesville and Ruby Coleman of Waterbury, Connecticut and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Southlawn Memorial Park, 1901 Birdsong Road, S. Prince George, Virginia 23805. His remains rest on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805.
