James I. Shutt Sr., retired Virginia State Capitol Police officer, 73, of Colonial Heights passed away on Friday, November 14, 2008 at his residence. He was the son of the late Clair and Erma Olinger Shutt. Mr. Shutt retired from both the U.S. Army and the Virginia State Capital Police with 20 years of service in each. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Shirley M. Shutt of Colonial Heights; sons, James I. Shutt Jr. and wife Charlotte of Prince George, and Timothy G. Shutt and wife Jennifer of Colonial Heights; a daughter, Cindy L. Doyle and husband Robert of Prince George; brothers, Robert C. Shutt of Zephyr Hills, Florida, and George R. Shutt of Elmira, New York; a sister, Joy Wise of Daleville, Alabama; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Graham Patterson officiating. Interment Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Flowers are welcome.
