James Asberry Spivey, 90, of Chester, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Sitter & Barefoot Veterans Care Center in Richmond. Born in Nantahala, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Claude and Serldia Taylor Spivey. Mr. Spivey served in the Army Air Corp. and later retired from the U.S. Air Force. He was a life time member of the Landmark Lodge S.C. and ACCA Temple, past Commander of American Legion Post 284, and past Chef de Gare of Voitures Forty & Eight. He is survived by his loving wife of 70, years, Margaret Spivey; sons Charles D. Spivey and wife, Deborah of Church Road, Danny A. Spivey and wife, Vickie of Franklin; daughters, Shirley S. Story and husband, Henry of Franklin, and Connie S. Walker and husband, Wally of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; six great grandchildren and two great- great grandchildren; two sisters and one brother A memorial service will be held 7:00 P.M. on Friday, October 3, 2014 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with Chaplain William Gibson officiating.
