James Ambler Tanner, 82, of Colonial Heights, passed away Monday, April 19, 2021. He was born in Petersburg on February 15, 1939 to the late George and Blanche Tanner and graduated from Hopewell High School. Mr. Tanner was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and was raised a member of West Hopewell Presbyterian Church. He started working at Honeywell in 1960 and worked there 41 years before retiring as an X-Ray Technician. He also served 12 years on the board of directors for the Peoples Advantage Federal Credit Union. Mr. Tanner is survived by his wife of 52 years, Charlé Dick Tanner; daughters, Stacy Fossum (Ronnie) and Beth Smith (Ryan); son, Blake Tanner (Amanda); grandchildren, Skylar Tanner, Gracie, Lucas, and Myles Smith, and Jameson Tanner; and great-grandchildren, Brenlynn Tanner and Remi Lowe. A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 26, 2021 at Bermuda Memorial Park, 1901 Bermuda Hundred Road, Chester, Virginia 23836 with Chaplain Ed Kross officiating. The family would like to extend special thanks to James River Hospice and to Mr. Tanner’s devoted caregiver, Karen.
