James E. Thompson (Big Jim), 89, of Colonial Heights passed away on Monday February 13, 2017. Born October 4, 1927, he was the son of the late Jim Dunbar and Leona Kivela Thompson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Rogers Thompson; sisters, Dorothy Steele and Jean Berry; daughter, Marsha L. Overholser; and grandson, Jason Shively. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Colonial Heights. He is survived by his children, Carol D. Thompson and fiancé, Rick Thurston of Chesterfield, Kathy S. Koch and husband, Robert of West Virginia, Judy C. Grant and husband, John of Colonial Heights; step-children, Diane Rogers of Richmond, Scott B. Rogers and wife, Natalie; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the Colonial Heights Church of the Nazarene, 601 E. Ellerslie Avenue, Colonial Heights, Virginia, 23834, with the Reverend Mike Lamphire officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday night, February 16, 2017 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
