Janet Wyatt Hancock

Janet Carol Wyatt Hancock, 61, of Prince George County, VA, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023. Born in Petersburg, VA on January 5, 1962, she was the daughter of the late Leo Edgar Wyatt and Lily Mae Wyatt. She is survived by her husband, Mark P. Hancock; siblings, Kenneth Wyatt (Linda), Mark Wyatt (Stacey), Cathy Wyatt (Jimmy “Cuda” Jones), and Kelly Wyatt; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other extended family members.

Janet loved her Lord and Savior, her church, her family, and her extended church family. She was a lifetime member of Matoaca United Methodist Church, which rallied around her as a young child, providing her with not only spiritual guidance, but help with the many medical and financial needs facing her. During her 18-year career as director of Matoaca Child Development Center, Janet was blessed and honored to return the love shown to her, by caring for and nurturing the community’s children. Although she had no children of her own, she loved her nieces, nephews, and their children as her own. From the age of eight, after her diagnosis of juvenile diabetes, her entire life was plagued with countless surgeries, transplants, and many other health related complications, eventually leading to her death. The love and support of her family, friends, and church family, and her perseverance and determination was a testament to her strength and faith.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at Matoaca United Methodist Church, 6301 River Road, S. Chesterfield, VA 23803. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, VA 23834.
