Janice Tyler

October 1, 1927 — March 9, 2018

Janice Baird Coleman Tyler, 90 of Colonial Heights passed away at her residence on Friday, March 9th, 2018. Born in Disputanta, VA to Walter and Ivey Hennaman Baird, Mrs. Tyler was preceded in death by her first husband Howard Coleman and second husband Bobby Byrd Tyler, Sr. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Brugh Bright; a brother, Walter Baird; and a son-in-law, Robert A. Harris, Jr. Mrs. Tyler was a member of First Baptist Church in Petersburg and was retired from Civil Service as a procurement specialist. She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca (Becky) Coleman Harris; two grandsons, Andrew Coleman Harris and his wife Nikki and great-granddaughters Hope and Leah, Brett Harris and his wife Rebecca and great-grandson Gideon of Durham, NC; stepchildren, Rebecca Jane Batton and husband Harold, Bobby Byrd Tyler, Jr, several step grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as a number of loving nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Crater Community Hospice and to Mrs. Tyler's caregivers: Jenny Elder, Edith Smith, Jennie Jordan-Ruiz, Vanessa Robinson- Randolph, and Charleen Drew. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church 235 West Washington St in Petersburg at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday March 14, 2018 with Rev. Robert Dawson and Rev. Steve Felker officiating. Burial to follow in Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8:00pm at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Crater Community Hospice 3916 S Crater Road Petersburg VA 23805 or to the First Baptist Church Endowment Fund.
