Jason Jordan

June 16, 1978 — August 22, 2020

Jason identified with the verse James 1:19 “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath; for the wrath of man does not produce the righteousness of God” because it was a daily prayer and reminder of how God was still growing him.

Jason Dan Jordan, age 42, of Petersburg, VA, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020.

Jason was born in Culpeper, VA, to parents Dan Edward Jordan and Melissa Kidwell Reynolds in 1978. He grew up in Norfolk, VA, sharing life with his best friend and younger brother Ivan Edward Jordan and their beloved Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Chester. He loved and played soccer from ages 7-17 on indoor, outdoor, travel, and school teams. He faithfully attended Norview Baptist Church in Norfolk from infancy through high school. He gave his life to Jesus Christ at age 18 and was baptized at Norview Baptist Church. He graduated from Norfolk Collegiate High School in 1996 and attended Chowan College in Chowan, NC. Jason had numerous interests and wasn’t afraid of any challenge. He was a merchandiser for Red Bull, and he built wrought iron fences, gates, and other iron-work features with his dear friend Dalton, whom he met and was mentored by in the fly-fishing community. His mother and step-father proudly display one of his gates at their current residence. Jason was a mortgage banker for Monarch Mortgage for several years until 2011.

Jason is survived by his father Dan Edward Jordan, his mother Melissa Kidwell Reynolds (Tim, stepfather), brother Ivan Edward Jordan (Mechelle, niece Jade and nephew Caleb), grandmother Rebekah Jordan, affectionally known as Grandmom, Uncle Glenn Jordan (Aunt Beth, cousins Laura, Elise and Paul), Uncle David Jordan (Aunt Val), grandfather Jack L. Kidwell (Cynthia), Uncle Jay Kidwell (Aunt Pat), Aunt Suzy Boyd (Uncle John, cousins Clinton, Meredith, Emily, Taylor, Jillian, Olivia, and Casie), Aunt Mary Lou Soto (Uncle Leo, cousins Monica and Stefan), Aunt Nancy Sexton (cousins Robert Jr, Benjamin, and Megan), Aunt Christy Gmelch (Uncle Tom), step-sisters Dana Thompson (Jeff, and Logan, Grace), Kristine Allen (Tim, and Blaine, Reed, Dalton, and Rylin), step-brother Michael Reynolds (Brittany, and Kaci Faith), Step-Grandmother Shirley Reynolds, and Step-Aunts Pam Pearson (Greg) and Debbie Woodard (Dale).

Jason was preceded in death by his dearly loved grandfather, Glenn D. Jordan, grandmother Lucy Rose Kidwell, step-grandfather Johnny Benton Reynolds and Uncle Robert Sexton.

Because of Jason’s love of serving God and people, he was blessed by the opportunity to share his knowledge and passion of fly tying at Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond, VA, through Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, Inc. He volunteered weekly with PHWFF for over two years, faithfully teaching and guiding disabled veterans. Jason volunteered every Sunday with the Mount Pleasant Baptist Church media ministry, operating cameras for live streaming church services in Colonial Heights, VA. He also worked with helping to launch the Trail Life ministry at MPBC promoting the outdoors and God’s beautiful creation to young men. He assisted his mother in teaching 3rd grade Sunday School for two years, and he was a devoted member of the MPBC Service Team, regularly helping his church family with numerous household moves, light construction, and landscaping.

Jason is well-respected for his understanding and full belief in God’s word because he was a redeemed sinner. He did not try to hide his struggles but allowed God to show His full redemptive power through the blood of Jesus Christ by transforming his life. Jason’s ability to help others comprehend that scriptural truth, from young children to elders in their faith, was a blessing and encouragement to countless souls thankful to call Jason a friend. Jason faithfully met people where they were and pointed them to Jesus. Jason so loved his church, his Saturday morning Panera men’s Bible study, his Sunday School class, and his Community Group. He taught Biblical truth with an easy, story-telling style that could make one laugh, cry, or ponder, but always walk away with a deeper understanding of God’s Word.

Anyone who really knew Jason knew of his deep love for fly fishing. It all started at age 8, when Granddad Jordan gave him his first fly rod for Christmas, thus starting a life-long passion of the sport. Jason was well-respected in the fly-fishing community for his technical abilities and knowledge. He was known for his artistic fly-tying craftmanship and loved opportunities to share that knowledge with fellow anglers. Being on the water, either fresh or salt, always gave Jason peace and hope for the future as he fished and enjoyed God’s creation.

Jason was a beloved member of Virginia Landscapers, LLC for the last three years and leaves behind a group of coworkers who love him dearly.

Friends know of Jason’s love of Jesus, family, fishing, country music, GIF wars, and a feisty round of Jeopardy! His best and longest friendship is with his brother Ivan. For years, their parents “foolishly” believed the overheard Christmas Eve giggles were from little boys excitedly awaiting Santa. Years later they discovered the truth. It was two, out-of-bed boys pelting passing cars (touring the neighborhood’s Christmas light displays) with folded cardboard wads from their sling shots!

A Celebration of Life will take place at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 28, 2020 at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 3110 Greenwood Avenue, Colonial Heights, VA 23834.  Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com .
