Jasper "Jack" Edwards

Jasper “Jack” F. Edwards of Colonial Heights, went home to be with his family on January 13, 2023. He was born February 16, 1932, and was the youngest child of Wilton F. Edwards and Margret E. Keightley, of Petersburg.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother’s Clifford W., Aubrey C., and John C. Edwards, and his second wife of 47 years Faye Cummins Edwards.   Jack was a graduate of Petersburg High School, and after graduating he went to work at Fort Lee. Two years later, he enlisted in the Navy. He was sent to Alaska for radio training (to learn Morse Code) and then served as a radio operator upon one of Navy’s Troup Transport Ships, The General G.M. Randall (AP-115).  Jack had attained the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class and was awarded 2 medals. After leaving the Navy, he returned to work at Fort Lee as a civilian employee with the Audio/Visual Support Center, eventually becoming its director, and stayed there until his retirement some 35 years later. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved to be in the outdoors in his younger days. In his declining years, he still loved to talk about his Navy days and hunting & fishing with his children. In 2021 he could still recite the alphabet in Morse Code.  Mr. Edwards is survived by his two sons, Kenneth F. Edwards (Susan) of Charlotte, NC and Stephen D. Edwards of Colonial Heights, Va., granddaughter, Anna L. Edwards of Raleigh, NC, niece Pamela E. Hoebel (Greg) of Prince George, Va., nephew Aubrey C. Edwards Jr. (Diane) of Prince George, Va., and many other extended relatives.  A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 18, 2023, in Blandford Cemetery 319 S. Crater Road Petersburg, Virginia 23803.  The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 17, 2023, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
