Jeannine Ruth Brown, 82, of Dinwiddie, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018. She was born in Missouri to the late Gerald and Ruth Chilcoat on March 21, 1936. Jeannine wore many hats throughout her life, including teaching English to wives of visiting foreign officers, and taking lessons with a master painter while she lived in the Pacific. She was known by her friends as a kind, intelligent, loving, talented person, who was knowledgeable in many subjects. Of all the things for which she will be remembered, her love of animals stands out among them. She was a cat lover, and dedicated herself to the care of animals, serving over 25 years of her life as a volunteer for the SPCA of Petersburg and Colonial Heights. Her many positions at the SPCA included Chairman, Newsletter Chairman, Officer Manager, and handling cruelty and distress cases. She also served as SPCA President for ten years. Jeannine was preceded in passing by her beloved husband, Keith Brown. She is survived by her brother, Jerry Chilcoat (Marge Benway); longtime caregiver, Sherrie Helsley; best friend of 50 years, Beverley Jensen and family; and her cherished cats, Boo, Sugar Pie, and Tippy. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia, 23834.
