Jerry L. Best, a devoted family man and cherished member of the community, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at the age of 80. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Franklin and Vina Mae Mcarthur Best; as well as 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his loving family, his beloved wife of over 60 years, Carolyn Medlin Best; daughter Sara Durmon (Dwight) and his two beloved grandchildren, Alex and Anna, who were the light of his life. His legacy lives on through them, and his memory will forever be cherished by those who knew him. He also leaves a brother Danny Best (Jan) and many other loving family members.
Jerry’s journey in life took many paths, but one of his proudest moments was serving his country. Drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966, Jerry proudly served his nation until his honorable discharge in 1968. His service, commitment, and patriotism remain a proud chapter of his life.
In his later years, Jerry found great joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a deep passion for tending to his garden, cultivating not only flowers but memories with loved ones. His love of nature was matched only by his enthusiasm for collecting John Deere memorabilia—a hobby that brought him immense joy and connection with friends and fellow collectors. Above all, Jerry’s greatest joy was being a grandfather. He adored his grandchildren, Alex and Anna, and took great pride in watching them grow and thrive.
In honor of Jerry’s lifelong commitment to service, family, and community, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Dementia Society of America at https://www.dementiasociety.org/.
