Jess Stanley

Jess F. Stanley, Lt. Colonel (retired) USAF, 86, of Colonial Heights, one of the "Greatest Generation" passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2013. He was the son of the late Junius and Rubye Legette Stanley. Mr. Stanley served in the Pacific during WW II as a sailor. He graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1950 and joined the United States Air Force to serve in the Korean War. He served in Korea, Vietnam and during the Cold War where he was awarded numerous service ribbons and six medals for outstanding service, including the Bronze Star. He was a member of The Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He retired from the USAF in 1978. Mr. Stanley is survived by his loving wife, of 64 years, Dorothy S. Stanley; a son Donald B. Stanley of Texas; daughter Susan L. Egbert of Utah; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister Jenny Wall of North Carolina. Services are private.
