Jesse J. Croom Jr., 78, of Chesterfield, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at his residence. He was born March 7, 1937 to the late Jesse J. Croom, Sr. and Laura Carter Croom and was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles G. Croom and a niece, Michelle Sparrow. Mr. Croom was a United States Army Veteran. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where he was the chairman of the deacons. He was a founding and charter member of Ettrick-Matoaca Volunteer Rescue Squad, and a former member of the Colonial Heights Lions Club. Mr. Croom retired after 38 years of service from Allied Chemical, now Honeywell. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Brenda Hawks Croom; a son, James Croom and wife, Karen of Chester; grandchildren; Laura Simmons and husband, Adam of Chester, Katie Young and husband, Dustin of Colonial Heights, Jonathan Croom of Chester; great-granddaughter, Claire Simmons of Chester; two brothers, Marvin and Prentice Croom of North Carolina; four sisters, Helen Spain of Amelia, Etta Mae Bell, Mary Ann Sparrow, and Diane Sanderson, all of North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday June 13, 2015 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend Scott Price and Reverend Dennis Tucker officiating. Entombment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 12, 2015 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 19600 Halloway Avenue South Chesterfield, Virginia 23803.
