Jesse Ernest Simmons, Jr., 63, of Chester passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at his home. Born December 20, 1960, he was the son of the late Esther Darnell and Jesse Ernest Simmons, Sr., and was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, Brian Stone; and brothers-in-law, Mike Cash and Roy "Bubba" Morris
He served in the United States Army for 15 years before retiring. Following his military career, he worked in civil service for the military and government.
He was a devoted member of The Heights Baptist Church, where he joined in 1996. His commitment to his church was clear through his vital contributions to the Media Ministry, where his skills and dedication greatly enhanced the worship experience for the congregation. As a class administrator for Sunday School, he played an important role in promoting spiritual growth and connection among church members. He volunteered with Awana and played a crucial role in initiating the Car Care Clinic, which provided assistance to single mothers and widows. He was involved in making the first wheelchair ramp for a disabled church member, eventually blossoming into a ministry of its own.
Jesse's service to others wasn't limited to the church community. Jesse continued to impact young lives as a Cub Master with the Cub Scouts and later participated with his grandsons in Scouting, instilling values of leadership and community service in the next generation.
Beyond his service, Jesse found joy in building and working on computers, showcasing his technical prowess. However, his greatest source of happiness was undoubtedly the time spent with his grandchildren. Jesse cherished every moment with them, creating memories that will be treasured by his family for generations to come.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Donna Marie Simmons; three children, Heather Jennings, Jeremy Simmons, Christina Marie Stone; three grandchildren, Landon James Clifford, Michael Jesse Jennings, Lilliana Marie Stone; three sisters, Terri Lynn Cash, Tami Morris, Georgeann Hunt and husband, Jeff; aunt, Brenda Moore and husband, Don; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
