Jessica A. Velvin 23, of Emporia, formerly of Colonial Heights, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017. She was born February 16, 1993. Jessica was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, John N. Parker. Jessica was employed as a lead teacher at the James Child Development Center in Prince George and was a member of the Highland United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights. She is survived by her husband, Justin Velvin; her parents, David and Cindy Lorentz; two sisters, Brittany and Tara Lorentz of Colonial Heights; maternal grandparents, Lawrence and Pat Wilson; paternal grandmother, Catherine Parker of Colonial Heights; aunts and uncle, Kathy and Marty Herertick of Hopewell and Mona Durning of Colonial Heights; cousins, Terri and Chris Faber, and Kayla Dressler of Hopewell, Marty and Gina Heretick of Missouri, Bobby Heretick of Prince George, Lacey Heretick of Hopewell, Kasey Creech and Fiancé Theresa Updike, Skylar Creech of Prince George, and Meagan Creech of Colonial Heights; father and mother in-law, Roy B. Velvin, Jr. and wife, Vicky; sisters-in-law, Alyssa Velvin and Allison Velvin; grandparents-in-law, Jesse and Alice Whitby and Frank and Jennie Temple, all of Emporia. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 5, 2017 from 2-4:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard 23834. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 6, 2017 at Highland United Methodist Church, 125 Westover Ave. Colonial Heights, with the Reverends Dr. Dorothy O'Quinn and Reverend Mike Tolbert Officiating. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park Prince George, Virginia 23805.
