Joan A. Tyo, 83, of Church Road, Virginia, passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018. Born April 19, 1935 in Beckley, West Virginia she was the daughter of the late Randall and Arlene Potts of Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania, and the widow of Kenneth Ray Tyo, retired U.S. Army Warrant Officer. Mrs. Tyo was a civil service retiree from Fort Lee, Virginia. She was also a Medical Transcriptionist in the Tri-City area for many years. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Karen Kathleen Hayes of Dewitt, Va. Mrs. Tyo is survived by six children, Linda Maitland of Dinwiddie, Va., Patricia Vaughan of Church Road, Va., Kenneth Randall Tyo of Church Road, Va., Richard Lee Tyo of Colonial Heights, Va., Michael Riley Tyo of Petersburg, Va., and Kelly Tyo of McKenney, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A funeral ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834. Visitation will be held one-hour prior. A graveside ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, West Virginia, 25313.
