Joe Irving Browder, 90, of Colonial Heights, departed this life on August 24, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 27, 1922 in Victoria, Virginia to the late Irvin and Ruth Browder. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Henry, and two sisters, Doris Luther and Sue Braswell. Joe was raised in Ettrick and attended Ettrick United Methodist. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1942 and soon after, joined the Navy. Joe was a W.W.II veteran. He was a Line Supervisor for Vepco for 37 years and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Joe was a member of the American Legion Post 284, the Sutherland Hunt Club, the Powhatan Starke Lodge # 124, and the Royal Arch. He enjoyed spending time with friends at Olger's Store and Dee's Barber Shop. He is survived by his devoted wife of 70 years, Charlotte M. Browder, son J. Wayne Browder and wife Cheri; daughter Jerie Lynn Williams; four grandchildren, Tracie Lynn Souther and husband, Neal, J., Scott Browder and wife, Liz, Terri Duncan and husband, Jarrad and Suzanne B. Davis and husband, Scott, seven great-grandchildren, Joshua Boyd, Emily Compere, Coleman Duncan, Reagan Davis, Nathan Davis, Tory Christman and Allie Christman; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Wednesday August 28, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard, with the Reverend James Blankenship and the Reverend Bobby Lamb officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery Petersburg, Virginia. The family will receive friends Tuesday August 27, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S.
