John Ballard

John Marshall Ballard, 90, of Disputanta, Virginia died on Sunday, August 28, 2016. He was the son of the late Eli Washington and Maggie J. Davis Ballard and was also preceded in death by his wife, Veronica Swain Ballard. Mr. Ballard was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II, being a POW, having been a Bronze Star and Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the American Legion Post #284, Colonial Heights and a member of the DAV. He was also a member of Grace Baptist Church in Dinwiddie. Mr. Ballard is survived by his step-children, Teresa Payne Morris of Prince George, Angela Payne Cuttic and husband, Brian of Georgia and Teddy Ray Payne Jr. and wife Peggy of Disputanta. Eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 31, 2016 from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Funeral services will be private.
