John Bennett

John Archer Bennett, 88, of Chesterfield, passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at Southside Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late George and Ellen Henshaw Bennett, and the widower of Nellie Mitchell Bennett. Mr. Bennett was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during WWII, and was a Merchant Marine. He worked 18 years before retiring as a Transportation Assistant for Texaco. Mr. Bennett is survived by two daughters, Myldred Marie Pate of Crewe, and Jane Bennett East of Chester; a son, John Carl Bennett and wife, Marlyn of Chester; eight grandchildren, Charles Duncan, David Duncan, Marie Belk, George Morriss Jr., Patricia Wilson-Hall, Mary Jane Wilson, John C. Bennett Jr., and Christopher Bennett; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Ellen Shadel; and a brother, Edgar Bennett. A graveside service will be held 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Sunset Memorial Park, Chester with the Reverend David Prather officiating.
