John Philip Bowman, of Colonial Heights, was born April 18, 1923, and passed away on April 16, 2015, two days before his 92nd birthday. A graduate of Penn State University, he was a registered professional engineer and retired from the engineering department at Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation. Mr. Bowman served in the Army Air Corps in WWII, and was a member of the American Legion Post #284, a former member of Colonial Heights Rotary Club, Colonial Heights Senior Golf Association, and the Knights of Columbus. He had served as an adjunct math instructor at Petersburg High School and John Tyler Community College, and his volunteer work included many years of tax preparation for senior citizens and in Admissions at SRMC. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ellen and Patricia, and his brothers, Robert and Charles. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Rita; one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Nancy; and daughters, Barbara Woods of Colonial Heights and Sandra Robbins of Emporia; grandchildren, Brian Bowman of Newport News, John Bowman of Colonial Heights, and Beth Lastra (Mike). of Spring Hill, Florida; great-grandchildren, Cooper and Harper Lastra; and numerous nieces & nephews. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015 at St. Ann Catholic Church, 17111 Jefferson Davis Highway, Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834 with private inurnment at St. Ann Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11:00 a.m. Monday prior to the service at church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Ann Catholic Church or Colonial Heights Fire & EMS, P.O.
