John Caffrey

January 21, 1940 — December 29, 2012

On Saturday, December 29, 2012, our hearts were saddened by the passing of our father, John W. "Buddy" Caffrey. He was born in Petersburg, Virginia January 21, 1940 to the late Everett Earl Caffrey Sr. and Inez Humphries Caffrey. He was predeceased by his son, John Jr., sister, Alice Weathers, and brother, Everett Earl Caffrey Jr. He retired from Phillip Morris after 30 years of service. He "Proudly" served in the United States Navy. His many passions included his painting business, being a NASCAR Racing Fan, and most of all his contributions to his church and his family. He served on the Priesthood of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and unselfishly gave his time to continually spread the word of the gospel working with the missionaries, teaching inmates at the Federal prison and his work at the LDS Washington D.C. Temple. He was devoted to his four girls and loved them all unconditionally and made it known to anyone he met in his daily travels. He never met a stranger and his sense of humor was enjoyed by many. He leaves to cherish his memory his four daughters, Rita Feasenmyer and husband, Bill of Colonial Heights, Dawn Marie Myrick of Short Pump, MichaelAnn Jarrell (twin to John Jr.) and husband, Mike of Goochland, and Kimberly "Dink" Caffrey of Hopewell and their mother, Mrs. Lynda Vaughan; six grandchildren, Brandi Myrick and significant other, Ricky Hughes, Devon Myrick, Michael "Mikey" Myrick and significant other, April Frye, Dustin Ray Jones, Max Jarrell and Preston Jarrell; four great-grandchildren, Angel, Lilli, Baby D, and Landon; a brother, Franklin "Sonny" Caffrey, sisters, Kathleen "Cap" Harris, Violet "Sissy" Wray, Harriet Moore, Barbara Cummings, Jean Wolfrey; numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013 in the Petersburg Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1800 Johnson Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805 with Bishop Londo Andrews officiating. Interment will follow in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at church. Arrangements by the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
