John C. Eversole, Jr., 85, of Dinwiddie passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Dunlop House. Born on September 7, 1930, he was the son of the late Lewie and John C. Eversole, Sr., and is also preceded in death by his wife, Susie B. Eversole; brother, Samuel Eversole; and his sisters, Cleta Mae Collins, Barshie Eversole, Gracie Turner, Esther Eversole, Ruth Pruett, and Mary Reeves. Mr. Eversole was retired from the United States Army after serving for 20 years. During his time in the Army, he served in the Korean War and was a recipient of a Purple Heart. John also worked for the State of Virginia South Hampton Correctional Facility, where he was the Supervisor of the Dental Laboratory, who taught inmates how to make dentures. A couple of those inmates went on to open their own dental businesses after their release from prison, which Mr. Eversole was very proud of. He is survived by his three daughters, Sandra Goodfellow and husband, Randy, Juanita James and husband, Hoyt, Tammy Kowalik; son, Irvin Eversole and wife, Diane; eight grandchildren, Deanna Peloza, Tony Kraus, Jennifer Muller, Melissa Newman, Stephanie James, Wendy Fields, Timothy and Christopher Kowalik; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great great-granddaughter; brothers, Daniel Eversole and wife, Sue, Andrew Eversole and wife, Joy; sisters, Jacqueline Herald and husband, Courtney, Evelyn Eversole; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at the Dunlop House for their exceptional care of Mr. Eversole. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the Crater Road Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Rd. Petersburg, Virginia, 23805, with the Reverend Andrew Eversole officiating. Entombment will take place in Southlawn Memorial Park, South Prince George, Virginia.
