John Gormley Sr.

John Robert Gormley Sr., 67, passed away at Petersburg Healthcare Center on Thursday, November 9, 2017. Born to the late Robert and Mary James Gormley, John was also preceded in death by his two brothers, David P. Gormley and Richard P. Gormley. A U.S. Army National Guard veteran of six years, John had spent over 30 years as an automotive repair instructor at the Rowanty Vocational Technical Center. John's family and friends knew him as a great musician who loved life and had a big heart. He is survived by his son, John Robert Gormley Jr.; his sisters, Anne Hopkins and Susan Gammon; his granddaughter, Kaylie Gormley; his very special friend, Susan Rothfuss-Talpas and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family would like a donation to be made in John's memory to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 South Crater Road, Petersburg, VA 23805.
