John Hughes

SGT Major John Thomas Hughes, Sr., US Army (Ret), 72, of Disputanta, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at his residence. Born in West Virginia, he was the son of the late Robert L. Hughes and Wanda H. Hughes. John retired after many years of service from the United States Army as a Sergeant Major, and was a member of the American Legion Post #2. He is survived by his loving wife, Sumiko Hughes; two sons, John T. Hughes, Jr. and fiancée, Becky, Thomas Hughes and wife, Christina; three daughters, Audrey Callen and husband, Michael, Sandra Pace and husband, James, Nancy Hughes-Myers and husband, Jacob; grandchildren, Jamie Hughes and wife Jessica, Joshua Hughes and wife Katie, Nicole Jones, Shannon Ward, Aiko Hughes and Avery Hughes; great-grandchild Sophia Jones; and his beloved dog, Little Bit. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 17, 2014 in the Petersburg Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 3935 S. Crater Road. Burial will follow with Military Honors in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Virginia.
