John Wayne Linkous

John Wayne Linkous, age 81, of Disputanta, Virginia went to be with the Lord on November 21, 2024. Born on February 11, 1943 to the late Frank and Iva Linkous in Radford, Virginia. 

John is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Helen. His daughter, Jill Thompson, and her husband, Kevin. His brother, Jimmy Linkous and significant other, Linda. He cherished his time spent with his grandchildren Kirstyn and Zachary Thompson. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Jodie Linkous and his sister Phyllis Weiss. 

He earned a Bachelor’s degree at New River Community College and then worked many years at Allied Chemical in instrumentation. He had a heart to serve and volunteered as a firefighter for many years with the Prince George Volunteer Fire Department. 

John was a man that loved the Lord and loved spending time with family and friends. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His love for cooking Apple Cakes, Crab Soup and BBQ was one way he showed love to family and friends. 

The family will receive friends Friday, November 29, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Petersburg Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home at 3935 S Crater Road, Petersburg, VA. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 30 at 11:00 a.m. at Oakland Baptist Church, 12601 Prince George Drive, Disputanta, VA. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Jodie Linkous ARTZ Lady Scholarship at the John Randolph Foundation. Donations may be made online at johnrandolphfoundation.org. You will click on the “GIVE NOW” button and select the “Jodie Linkous ARTZ Lady Scholarship”. If using a check, simply make the check payable to John Randolph Foundation, with “Linkous” in the memo section of the check and mail to John Randolph Foundation, PO Box 1606, Hopewell VA 23860.
