John A. McLaughlin, 90, of Ettrick, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2009 at the Medical College of Virginia. Preceded in death by parents, Richard and Sarah McLaughlin, brother, Lonnie McLaughlin and son, John B. McLaughlin. He was a member of Ettrick United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Eileen C. McLaughlin, of 63 years; son, Donald C. McLaughlin, Kay D. McLaughlin, surviving spouse of John B. McLaughlin; grandchildren, Tina M. Spiers and husband, David, Ryan T. McLaughlin and wife, Jennifer, Brittany K. Story, and Donnie C. McLaughlin; great-grandchildren, Brandon C. Spiers, Megan M. Spiers, Riley B. McLaughlin and many more beloved and dear friends. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the 8th Air Force. He retired from Brown and Williamson Tobacco Co. after working 23 years. He was an active member of Ettrick United Methodist Church, a member of the Ettrick American Legion, F.O.E. 882 Eagles and Matoaca Sportsmen Club. A memorial service will take place 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3, 2009 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend James Blankenship officiating.
