John L. Perkins, 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011 in ManorCare Health Services. Born in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late John H. and Myrtle Simonson Perkins. Mr. Perkins attended Grace Lutheran Church; he was a United States Army Air Corp veteran having served during World War II, and a member of the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284. He is survived by his wife, Doris C. Perkins; a step-son, Michael C. Jones and wife, Betty of Chesterfield; a step-daughter, Diane J. Harmon of Colonial Heights; step-grandchildren, June J. Hall and husband, Zach of Charlotte, North Carolina, Aaron C. Harmon and wife, Lynn, and Amy L. Harmon all of Colonial Heights; and a sister, Ada Mae Henning of Port Charlotte, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday August 24, 2011 in the Colonial Heights chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Pastor Richard J. Finck, of Grace Lutheran Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice Services, 1504 Santa Rosa Road, Suite 114, Richmond, Virginia 23229.
