John Edward Slaughter Sr., 88, of Chesterfield, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2011. He was the widower of June H. Slaughter, and the son of the late John Lee and Mary Virginia Fitts Slaughter. Mr. Slaughter was a member of Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, the Hopewell Moose Lodge, and the Hopewell VFW. He was a United States Army veteran having served during World War II, and a retired Supervisor from Allied Chemical with 32 years of service. He is survived by a son, John E. Slaughter Jr. and wife, Debbie of Enon; two daughters, Janet L. Donald and husband, Billy of Hopewell, Joanne S. Wilson and husband, Rick of Scottsdale, Arizona; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles Slaughter of Dinwiddie; two sisters, Helen Martin and Jean Hinson both of Dinwiddie. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 in Asbury Methodist Cemetery, Boydton Plank Road, McKenney, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Colonial Heights of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
