John Spiers

February 3, 1924 — March 21, 2018

John Henry Spiers, 94, of Chesterfield County, departed this life Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Born in Chesterfield County to the late James H. and Anna Spiers, he was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Clarita Saxon Spiers; his sister, Elizabeth Cabaniss; a son, John H. Spiers, Jr.; and a daughter, Sue Gail Fisher. Mr. Spiers graduated from Chester Agricultural High School, now known as Thomas Dale High School. He was a WWII Navy veteran who proudly served his country and after his discharge started his own electrical contracting business which served the Tri-Cities area for 59 years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion as well as Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church, he also served as the Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Mr. Spiers is survived by his daughter, Trisha S. Owens and husband, Ronald Owens; his son, Kevan Spiers; nine grandchildren, Teresa Fisher, Anita and Rick Owens, Nathan, Izaak, Jacob, and Melody Spiers, John H. Spiers III, and Shannon Holt; seven great-grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Reverend Anita Mays officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 26, 2018 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060-997. Condolences may be registered at www.ealvinsmall.com.
