John Ellis Vaiden, Jr., 89, of South Chesterfield, passed away September 11, 2018. He was born to the late John Ellis Vaiden, Sr. and Esther Brooks Vaiden on December 19, 1928. John was a member of Matoaca Baptist Church, a retired plumber, an avid fisherman, a gardener, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his beloved cat, Mickey. He also served his country in the National Guard of the United States. He was preceded in passing by his wife, Shirley Jones Vaiden. He is survived by his daughters, Vicki V. Tomko (Danny) of North Prince George, Patti Watkins (Johnny) of Surfside Beach, South Carolina, and Rose D. Thomas of Jacksonville, Florida; grandchildren, Brianna Tomko, and Daniel Decker; sister, Judy Vaiden Fletcher of Dinwiddie County; nephew, Hart Fuller; and great nephew, Zach Fuller. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Matoaca Baptist Church, 6409 River Road, S. Chesterfield, Virginia 23803, with Chaplain Liz Modeste officiating. Interment to follow at Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E.
