John Manson Whitlow, 74, of Colonial Heights, VA passed away on January 22, 2016. Born in Lunenburg, VA he was the son of the late, John William Whitlow and Ola Crews Whitlow Riegel; and was also preceded in death by a son, Jody Lynn Whitlow; and his step father, Earl Riegel. John was a retired police officer from Colonial Heights Police Department after 17 years of service. He was a former member of the Colonial Heights City Council where he had served for 4 years, and was also the former owner and operator of Colonial Driving School. Mr. Whitlow was a longtime member of Swift Creek Baptist Church in Colonial Heights. He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia L. Whitlow; a son, Gerald Anthony "Tony" Whitlow; a daughter, Andrea Michelle Cox and husband, Billy; one granddaughter, Melody Cox; two brothers, Ronnie Whitlow and R.B. Whitlow; a sister, Carolyn Dredge; and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Swift Creek Baptist Church, 18510 Branders Bridge Rd., Colonial Heights, VA 23834, with the Rev. Dr. Stephen Felker, officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2016 at E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Smithland Baptist Church, P.O. Box 25, Heathsville, VA 22473.
