John Preston Wicks, 80, of Dinwiddie County passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018. Born October 3, 1937, he was the son of the late Irving O. Wicks and Margaret E. Moody. He was a charter member of Second Chance Baptist Church. For 28 years, he worked as a supervisor for Green Leaf Dairy and later on worked as a Fiscal Assistant with VDOT. Preston was a dedicated and cherished member of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home family for over 30 years, where he worked as a funeral assistant. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Barbara S. Wicks; daughters, Mary "Lisa" Elizabeth Nicholas and husband, Gary of Hampton, Virginia, Susan Kimberly Wicks of Colonial Heights, Virginia; sons, Thomas W. Tatum and wife, Inez of Richmond, Virginia, Robert J. Tatum of Arlington, Virginia; seven grandchildren, John Z. Lukomski IV and wife, Kayln, Siena Grace Tatum, Daria Elizabeth Tatum, Matthew Tatum, Paul Tatum, Brian Tatum and Aaron Nicholas; great-grandson, John Z. Lukomski V; brothers, Irving L. Wicks and wife, Arline of Sutherland, Virginia, Ronald E. Wicks of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Gene C. Wicks and wife, Jeannie of Roanoke, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018 in Blandford Cemetery, Petersburg, Virginia, with the Reverend David Prather officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday night, June 27, 2018 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard.
