Joseph Allen

Joseph Kara Denny “Grandpa Joe” Allen, 73, of Dinwiddie, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2019. He was born on May 17, 1946 to the late Kara and Edna Sarah Looney Allen. Mr. Allen received a master’s degree in education and served as a teacher for 20 years. He also served 16 years as a security guard for John Randolph Medical Center. He enjoyed NASCAR and the New York Yankees. He was preceded in death by his brother, Benny Allen; and sister, Cristina Allen Matney. He is survived by his daughters, Allison Brown Smith, and Tracie Allen Byrd (Sean); sons, Daniel Allen, and Brandon Allen (Sade); grandchildren, Brandon Laws, Michael “Duke” Boyd, Kyleigh Allen, Jordan Allen, Maliyah Lewis, Josiah Allen, and Olivia Allen; sisters, Claudette McDonald (Jerry), Jeanette Johnson, and Becky Hill; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E.
