Joseph Elder

Joseph Thomas Elder Jr., 86 of Colonial Heights, passed away Wednesday September 4, 2013 at his residence. He was born July 15, 1927 in Petersburg, Virginia to the late Joseph Thomas Elder Sr., and May Jessup Elder- Jennings and was preceded in death by two brothers, Gene Elder and Douglas "Ducky" Elder, and a grandson Michael G. Elder Jr. Mr. Elder was a WW II., Navy veteran and retired from the A & P Tea Company. He was a member of West End Baptist Church, and the Dixie Bowman Archery Club. He loved tending to his yard and garden. Mr. Elder is survived by his wife of 65 years Edith O. Elder, daughter Jo Ann E. Mimms and husband Pace of Manteo North Carolina, son Michael Gene Elder and wife Rudy of Hopewell, six grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren, sister Helen Mattia of Colonial Heights and numerous nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday September 7, 2013 in Southlawn Memorial Park Prince George, Virginia, with the Reverend Rodney Mason of Faith Tabernacle Assembly of God Church officiating. The family will receive friends Friday September 6, 2013 from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory 2033 Boulevard.
