Joseph Albert "Jeep" Luongo, 92, of Colonial Heights, passed away on Thursday, February 18, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Michael and Albina Celata Luongo, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivian Luongo and a daughter, Brigitte Thompson. Mr. Luongo was a retired Sergeant First Class with the United States Army, a member of the China Marines Association, the Marine Corp. League, VFW Post #2239, the Colonial Heights American Legion Post #284, and the First Marine Corp. Division (Richmond Chapter Association). Mr. Luongo retired from Allied Chemical after 10 ½ years of service. He is survived by his wife, Irene Luongo; a son, Michael P. Luongo and wife, Denise A. of Woburn, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Karen Costa, Gary Luongo, Jesse Luongo, Nadine Luongo, Lillian Barone, Kathy Marchiano, and Christine Doustou; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Racicot and husband, Henry; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family members. A funeral service will be held 3:00 Monday, February 22, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with Father Lou Ruoff, Celebrant. Inurnment in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
