Josephine Alessi

Josephine Sedor Alessi, 98, of Disputanta formerly of Clifton, New Jersey, passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Hopewell Health Care Center. She was the daughter of the late Max and Anna Hromek Sedor, and was preceded in death by her husband, Victor Alessi; brothers, Joseph Sedor, John Sedor, and Wasil Sedor; and sisters, Jeanne Gyulay and Victoria Repella. Josephine was a member of St. Phillips Roman Catholic Church in Clifton, New Jersey, and St. James Roman Catholic Church in Hopewell, Virginia. She was a devoted wife, mother, and worked many jobs, such as for the Arrow Shirt Company, Dumont Electronics, the Federal Telephone Company, the Shulton Company, and helping the family over the years. She came here from Austria to Ellis Island at the age of six. She was a very gracious, kind, and loving person. Josephine is survived by a devoted daughter and son-in-law, Roberta Joy Alessi Cook and husband John of Disputanta; loving grandson, John Jude Thaddeus Cook and wife, Andrea of Raleigh, North Carolina; a great-granddaughter, Ruby Joy Cook; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. May 31, 2017 at St. James Roman Catholic Church, 510 W Poythress St. Hopewell, VA 23860 with Father Christopher Hess as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. James Roman Catholic Church, 510 W. Poythress Street, Hopewell, Virginia 23860.
