Josephine "Jo" Adams Funk

Josephine “Jo” Adams Funk, 88, of Colonial Heights, VA, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024. Born in Petersburg, VA on June 18, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Willis Thomas and Viola Oakes Adams. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Frederick Funk; her significant other, Brooks Melson; siblings, Randy Adams, Lois Jarratt, Janis Pahls, Joyce Hypes, and Larry Adams; and her granddaughter, Abby Grace Moring.

 Growing up, Jo played softball, basketball, and field hockey. As a full-time mom and wife, Jo devoted herself to creating a loving and nurturing home for her husband and daughter. Her impeccable organizational skills and daily regimens ensured that her household ran smoothly. She was known for her love of being in her kitchen, often found cooking for others and baking her famous red velvet cakes and coconut pies. These treats were a staple at family gatherings and a cherished gift for neighbors down her street, especially on their birthdays. She also loved watching NCIS, and doing her crosswords and word searches. Affectionately known as "Poo" by her grandchildren, Jo treasured her family immensely, including her dog, Baron.

 She is survived by her daughter, Donna Jo Funk Moring (Stuart); two grandchildren, Kaley Brooke Moring and Brady Dalton Moring; her sister, Barbara Adams Berry; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members that she loved dearly.

 A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. Interment will follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, S. Prince George, VA. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the funeral home.
