Josie Wohnig Phelps, 78, of Chesterfield, departed this life on Saturday, October 30, 2010. Josie was a long time member of Highland United Methodist Church in Colonial Heights, a member of the Davis-King Women's Circle, and was involved with Vacation Bible School for many years. She was among the first teacher's aides trained by Chesterfield County Public Schools and worked at Harrowgate Elementary School for many years. Her love, guidance, and caring nature will be missed by her family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin R. Phelps, and her parents, Max Earl Wohnig and Estelle Inge Wohnig. She is survived by her brother, Jerry Neal Wohnig; her daughter, Lynne Phelps Hamlin and her husband, John; her son, C. Randolph Phelps; grandchildren, Kristen and Nicole Hamlin, and Matthew and Stephanie Phelps; and great-granddaughter, Karleigh Phelps. The family would like to thank the staff at Lucy Corr Nursing Home for the loving care given to Mrs. Phelps. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, 2010 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes & Crematory, 2033 Boulevard with the Reverend William Rawlings officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Chester, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
