Joyce Ann Bridgman, 78, Passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2017, in Chester, Virginia. Born to the late Mary Henry and Wesley Edison Bridgman, Sr., Joyce is also preceded in death by her brother, Wesley E. Bridgman, Jr., and her sister, Judith Riggs. Joyce had worked in the grocery industry for nearly 50 years as an all-around employee, working in such positions as dairy section manager, stocker, and cashier throughout her career. She was also known by the people that loved her as the type of person that had a voracious appetite for knowledge and an indomitable love for learning, often preferring to read books over anything else. Joyce is survived by her niece, Karen E. Riggs, and her nephews, W. Alan Bridgman, Sr., Mark S. Bridgman, and David E. Riggs. A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 25, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at the Colonial Heights chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard Colonial Heights, Virginia 23834, with interment to follow in Southlawn Memorial Park, 1911 Birdsong Road South Prince George, Virginia 23805. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Joyce's memory. The family would also like to extend a special appreciation to the staff at Tyler's Retreat at Iron Bridge as well Hospice Community Care, for all their assistance and care provided to Joyce.
