Joyce Sacra

Joyce Baumgardner Sacra, age 63, of Rapidan, Virginia, went to be with her Lord, Thursday, December 31, 2015, after maintaining her fighting spirit and sweet disposition through many health challenges. She completed her earthly journey at University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville, Virginia, on her late mother's birthday. She was a Christian woman who loved serving God and others, even when health conditions dictated that others should be assisting her. She was a wonderful cook, and the delight from her delicious food and beautifully-decorated cakes was hers in the giving and the recipient in the blessing received. A faithful member of Grace Baptist Church in Orange, Virginia, Mrs. Sacra was always anxious to resume regular attendance if a new health obstacle prohibited her immediate return. Mrs. Sacra was preceded in death by her parents, Slemp H. and Ruth Jones Baumgardner, of Alvarado, Virginia; two sisters, Ruby Ann Doss and Lois Baumgardner; and one brother, Calvin W. "Buddy" Baumgardner. She is survived by her husband of forty years, Thomas Sacra, and son, Nathaniel Sacra, both of Rapidan, Virginia; one sister, Janice Jean Nunnally and her husband, Raleigh, of McKenney, Virginia; two brothers, Henry S. Baumgardner, Jr. and his wife, Edith, of Bristol, Tennessee, and Bobby A. Baumgardner and his wife, Darlene, of Bristol, Tennessee; four aunts, Evelyn Jones, of Abingdon, Virginia, Murriel Lawrence and her husband, Ronnie, of Mercer, Pennsylvania and Shirley Sweet and her husband, Graham, of Abingdon, Virginia; Marie White, Bristol, Tennessee; several nieces and nephews; and a large group of Christian brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2016 at Grace Baptist Church, 23814 River Rd, Petersburg, VA, with Pastor Raleigh B. Nunnally and Pastor Troy Thacker officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be sent to Grace Baptist Church, 18058 Constitution Hwy, Orange, VA 22960.
