Judy Boyd Dorton, 71, of Chester passed away Saturday, March 23, 2024. She was born on May 26, 1952, in Pennington Gap, Virginia to the late Emmajean Boyd and Ted Lowe Boyd and was preceded in death by her son, Joseph P. Dorton; brothers, Glen Boyd and Ted Boyd Jr; and sister, Tammy Boyd. Judy was a devoted member of the Derby Methodist Church and the Harrowgate Baptist Church. Immediately after high school, she started her career as a legal secretary for attorney Raymond Shannon in Appalachia, Virginia. In 1985, she started working for attorneys Paige and Thomas Cheely in Colonial Heights, Virginia until retiring in 2019. She had multiple hobbies including crafting Christmas ornaments with her husband, reading books, shopping, and spending time with her family. Judy is survived by her husband, Cecil Dorton Jr. (Joe); daughter, Brandi Baker and husband Brian Baker; daughter-in-law, Kieu Nguyen (Kathy); granddaughters, Olivia Baker, Isabella Dorton, and Lily Dorton; sisters-in-law, Shirley Boyd and RuthAnn Boyd; and several nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and cousins. A special thank you to Kevin and Debbie Ingram for all the memories, love, and support throughout the years. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28, 2024, from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, Colonial Heights, VA, 23834. A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon Friday, March 29, 2024, at Bermuda Memorial Park, 1901 Bermuda Hundred Rd, Chester, VA, 23831. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, https://www.cancer.org, and the Boy Scout Troop 819 sponsored by Saint John’s Episcopal Church, PO Box 3886, Chester, Virginia, 23831.
