Julia Spain Brooks, 80, of Colonial Heights, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on April 2, 2013. She was born on May 6, 1932 to the late Edward E. and Nina W. Spain. She was a 1950 graduate of Petersburg High School and retired in 1995 after nearly 30 years of public service as the Deputy Clerk of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court in Petersburg. Ms. Brooks was preceded in death by her brother, Herbert P. Spain. She is survived by her sister, Shirley S. Rosser, of Colonial Heights, and her children, Judy B. Bishop and husband Kenny of Colonial Heights, Mark E. Brooks and wife Connie, Victoria B. Simmons and husband Bragg, Sandra L. Brooks, and Kimberly B. Spiers and husband Rick, all of Chesterfield. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Mark Brooks, Jr., Robert Sweat III, Samantha Norvell, Christopher Sweat, Jacob Brooks, Brandon Bishop, Joey Donahoo, Berkeley Brooks, Taylor Brooks, Connor Brooks, Jordan Spiers, Rick Spiers and Madison Spiers, 5 great-grandchildren and another to be born in May, and son-in-law, Joseph E. Donahoo III. A funeral service will be held 7:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard, with the Reverend Carl Weaver officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Blandford Cemetery in Petersburg, Virginia.
