Julia Pope

July 19, 1941 — August 24, 2009

Mrs. Julia Ann West Pope, lovingly referred to as "Judy", of 4919 McAllister Drive, Chester, Va,, gained true victory and ultimate healing on Monday, August 24, 2009. Judy was born on July 19, 1941, the single offspring of the late Mary Adelle West and Richard K. West in Richmond, Va. She was a proud graduate of the George Washington Carver High School Class of 1959 in Chester, Va. She matriculated at Virginia State College (University) and The University of Virginia, having attained both her undergraduate and graduate degrees respectively. Judy's professional career as an educator and skilled librarian spanned for over 35 years as she touched the lives of students in the school divisions of Richmond City, the state of Delaware, and later retiring from the Hopewell City Public Schools. Judy rendered dedicated service and true commitment as a civic leader, serving as the former Basileus of the Delta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and a member of the Commonwealth Chapter of Links, Inc. Judy's unyielding, courageous tenacity as a strong, determined, and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and friend was evident throughout her sickness. She persevered through life's many obstacles and never lost her faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a living example of the firm belief "that it's not over until God says, it's over!" Judy's legacy will be forever cherished by her husband, James M. Pope, Jr., two loving and devoted daughters, Julie M. and Jamele A. Pope, a caring grandson, Bryson J. Dunlap II, a loving godson, Ronnie W Myers, a devoted god brother, H. Bertram Boisseau, one aunt, Lester D. Stokes, three loving cousins, George B.
